The Dog Park

This past Friday, Caroline woke us about an hour earlier than she usually gets up. Steven was on leave, so he didn't have to go into work. While I was feeding Caroline and watching the news, Steven popped outside to check on the pool. He came back inside and said "Let's go to the dog park". Wichita Falls finally moved up in the world and opened a dog park at one of the parks near our house. And when I say dog park, I mean they simply fenced off an old soccer field and hung a sign that said "Dog Park". Baby steps. Any whoodle, we had yet to take the boys to this new attraction.

Poor Jack and Fred really miss the big back yard that we had at our house in Charleston. They would spend hours out there, running all over the place and just relaxing in the grass. Every night after work, Steven would throw Fred's football for him and he would retrieve until he couldn't move. We have a back yard here in WF, but it is a lot smaller. When we moved in, it was nothing but dirt thanks to the lovely white trash people who lived here before us. Steven planted some grass for them, and somehow, I have managed to keep it alive in this horrid heat (don't even ask about our water bill). Still, the dogs, especially Fred, don't really have the opportunity to stretch their legs and run around. We have been meaning to take them to the dog park so that they could have some fun, but between our busy new life and the hell-like heat, we just haven't made it yet.

So, we loaded the whole family up (real child and fur children included) and headed to the dog park. They were so excited to be going somewhere. Poor dogs-they really just don't get the attention they once did!

Enjoying the ride!

Steven had all the windows down and Jack looked like he was in a wind tunnel

Caroline was excited about our outing

She is so darn happy in the morning

Steven threw Fred's tennis ball over and over and over and over and over.
There weren't any other dogs there when we arrived, so we had the place to ourselves.

Go Fred!

I am always behind the camera, so I decided to show that I was there too (yes, I realize that my eyes are closed behind my sunglasses... Oops)

We could definitely tell that Fred has gotten out of shape. He got tired a lot sooner than he used too. Look at that tongue!

Having a blast!

Caroline was content to just hang out and watch the action

I had to post this picture. Look at how she has her toy between her toes! She is definitely her father's daughter :)

Some other dogs showed up right as we were about to leave. I didn't get any pics because I stood outside the fence with Caroline (didn't want to take any chances). Jack and Fred had a blast though. We are going to make an effort to take them at least once a week, especially now since some one finally shut the door to hell and things are finally cooling off around here. It was just great to see them have so much fun. They are great dogs, and I really do feel bad that they don't get the attention they used to. Hopefully these little trips will help :)
